The Board of Directors represents a cross section of Lennox & Addington County and Prince Edward County. Members have the appropriate education, expertise, and experience in the major economic sectors of our community.
John Licharson, Chairman of the Board, became a Director in December 2007. He owns and operates TLA Custom Models & Hobby and, with his wife Elna, Tree Lane Country House B&B in their 1836 heritage limestone house in Wilton, Ontario. He retired from the federal civil service as Director of Operations, Economic and Regional Development Policy, in the Privy Council Office in 2002. He was the Senior Advisor on Internal Trade in the Department of Industry for the 1990-98 negotiations on interprovincial trade. Prior to that he served in the Department of External Affairs as a senior negotiator on trade issues with the European Community, on Canadian delegations to UNCTAD, the OECD and the UN and as, inter alia, Chargé d'Affaires, Chef de Mission, Counsellor and Aid Program Manager at the Canadian High Commissions in Jamaica, the Bahamas, Zambia and Tanzania and at the Canadian Embassy in Korea.
Debra Marshall, Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Area Development Committee,
became a member of the Board of Directors in 2005. Debra Marshall was
born and raised in Prince Edward County, of United Empire Loyalist
heritage. Having left Prince Edward County to pursue her career in
media communications, sales and marketing, she returned to take over
the family farm, established by her great grandfather. Currently a
tender fruit farmer, Mrs. Marshall is a member of the Rotary Club of
Picton and is active in a variety of community service initiatives.
John Jackson, Past Chair of the Board,
became a Director of PELA CFDC in June 2001. Mr. Jackson was employed
with the Ontario Public Service from 1959 to 1993 in various positions
including Civil Service Commission; Executive Director, Corporate
Services Division; Ministry of Government Services and Assistant Deputy
Minister, Property Management. Mr. Jackson is also a Member and
Treasurer of the local Community Care for Seniors, and a former member
of the finance committee of a local theatre foundation.
Kathleen Bazkur, Chair of the Marketing Committee, became a Board Member in 2007. Born and raised in Toronto, Kathleen worked in television, specifically brand marketing at CFTO-TV, was a founding member of YTV and was in senior management roles at Astral Networks and Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting. She has been a speaker at international conferences and a judge of television marketing and design awards. In late 1999, Kathleen moved to Prince Edward County to experience a new lifestyle adventure and head up her own brand consulting and production company. She is currently a Professor in Television and New Media Studies at Loyalist College. In addition, she is a Master Gardener and loves her dog Bear.
Tony Harborow, Chair of the Finance Committee, has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2002. Mr. Harborow is the owner of OKA Consulting. Originating in 1993, this company started as a consulting/contracting firm focused on supply chain management, but moved towards management assignments of a more general nature, mainly in agriculture. Mr. Harborow is also the President and General Manager of Engage Animal Health. His work history includes over thirty years with Ciba Geigy as Corporate Planning and Development Director; Marketing Director in Plant Protection and General Manager of the Green Cross Consumer Products Division.
Taj Jaffer has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2006. He is a graduate of University of London, England. Since 1973, he has been the owner operator of Amherstview Guardian Drugs and more recently involved in developing the main shopping complex in Amherstview. He continues to be actively involved in business.
Richard Potter, Chair of the Governance Committee, joined the Board of Directors in 2006. He practiced business law for a national and international firm in Toronto and London for 25 years followed by six years as its full time Director of Marketing and Business Development. He now consults to law firms in Eastern Canada from his home office near Milford in Prince Edward County where he and his wife have owned an historic home for nearly 20 years. Richard has considerable experience in advising technology companies and businesses generally on technology matters. Richard has also been active on a number of community services and arts boards and has recently completed the Directors Education Program of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D).
Doug Sexsmith, Chair of the Investment Committee, joined the Board of Directors in June 2001. Mr. Sexsmith was the Chair of the 1000 Islands CFDC for four years prior to joining our organization. Mr. Sexsmith is the Past Vice-President and a former Chair of the Board of Governors of the AMP. Mr. Sexsmith has an extensive background in civil engineering and operated his own consulting company.
Dennis Snider became a Director of the Board in December 2007. Mr. Snider is a retired Canadian Foreign Service Officer who served Canada in a number of overseas assignments, including as the Canadian Ambassador to Yugoslavia, to Macedonia and to Croatia. In Ottawa, his assignments included Director of the Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Division and Director of the Foreign Intelligence Division. Prior to joining the Foreign Service Mr. Snider taught at the Ontario Schools for the Deaf in Belleville and Milton. Mr. Snider and his wife Susan returned to the Quinte region in 2004 and immersed themselves in serving the L&A community. Mr. Snider is currently a member of the Napanee Waste Management Advisory Committee and the President of the Napanee Rotary Club.
Beth Vader became a Director in October 2008. Born and raised in Prince Edward County, Ms Vader completed her BPHE, BSc and BEd at Queen's University. Currently she is facilitating the innovative, new County Roots program at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute, an experiential course that has students working both at school and in the community to learn first-hand about the agriculture, tourism and culinary industries of Prince Edward County. Ms Vader's past work experience includes Programming Director for World Youth Centre (WYC) - a non-profit organization based in Toronto focusing on international youth action for social change, as well as teaching overseas. An active member of the Prince Edward County community involved with swimming, golf, running and cycling, Beth brings a youthful perspective to the table.
Harold Redekopp joined the Board in 2010 after a distinguished
career in radio and television broadcasting at the CBC, including several
senior executive posts. Harold has held
directorships on the boards of a wide variety of arts organizations, both
public and private, in Canada
and internationally. Among other
graduate and post graduate degrees, he holds an arts administration diploma and
is an Associate of the Royal
Canadian College
of Organists. Harold and his wife live
on Amherst Island.
