FireRein Inc., Willis Manufacturing & Wilton Tack Shop in Lennox & Addington County Receive Eastern Ontario Development Program Support
June 25, 2015, Lennox & Addington County, Ontario.
Three firms in Lennox & Addington County will benefit from an investment announced today by PELA CFDC and Daryl Kramp, Member of Parliament for Prince Edward-Hastings.
PELA CFDC is pleased to provide support for FireRein Inc. with an investment of $20,000 under the Business Development stream of the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP). The funding supported the prototype development of a mobile fire suppression trailer for the industrial sector and the development of a marketing strategy resulting in a move from the R&D phase to commercialization and entrance into new markets. FireRein also received $34,324 in 2013 to support the research and development of their gel product. These projects contributed to the creation of three jobs in Napanee and leveraged an investment of an additional $74,324.
PELA CFDC is pleased to provide support for Willis Manufacturing Ltd. with an investment of $28,675 under the EODP Business Development stream. The funding supported purchase of CNC machinery and equipment and staff training on CNC Mastercam programming resulting in increased efficiency and production. This project contributed to the creation of two jobs and the maintenance of 10 jobs in Wilton and leveraged $63,675 in private investment.
PELA CFDC is pleased to provide support for Wilton Tack Ltd. with an investment of $10,000 under the EODP Business Development stream. The funding supported the implementation of an e-commerce platform, fully integrated with the POS system, resulting in entrance to new markets and increased sales. This project contributed to the maintenance of five jobs in Wilton and leveraged $10,000 in private investment.
The Eastern Ontario Development Program advances economic development in rural eastern Ontario. Through EODP, FedDev Ontario is collaborating with CFDCs in eastern Ontario and the Eastern Ontario Community Futures Development Corporations Network Inc. to promote the growth of new and existing businesses in rural communities.
FireRein Inc. is a firm in Napanee specializing in innovative fire suppression technology. They are the developers of a unique, plant-based, water additive gel used to suppress and extinguish fires as well as the equipment used in the gel’s application.
Willis Manufacturing Ltd. is a precision metal fabricator and custom metal manufacturer providing services such as welding, machining, fabrication, CNC punching, and water jet cutting.
Wilton Tack Shop Ltd. is a 6,000-square foot tack shop carrying a wide selection of horse supplies and riding gear.
PELA CFDC is one of the 15 Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) in eastern Ontario funded by the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP) through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). CFDCs deliver a wide variety of programs and services to support community economic development and small business growth. They employ local staff and are each governed by a volunteer board of directors, made up of local residents representing the community.
The Eastern Ontario Development Program is a $48-million economic development initiative focused on addressing economic challenges in eastern Ontario and taking advantage of innovative opportunities in the region. The five-year renewal of the program is expected to result in more strategic, long-term economic development investments and collaborative projects that will benefit eastern Ontario businesses and communities.

Director of Operations for FireRein Inc., Quincy Emmons commented, “This investment will allow FireRein to focus our early efforts on the Alberta petroleum industry and reach the market earlier than expected.”
Willis Manufacturing owner Jeff Willis commented, “The equipment and training has helped save time in the manufacturing process and made us more productive while also enhancing our capabilities. As a result, we have been able to increase production to meet our growing demand.”
Wilton Tack Shop owner Howard Mahon said, “The online store was critical to the prosperity of the business in the long term, but without the help from the EODP support, it would not have been economically viable.”
